How to operate argon arc welding

1. Preparation: Ensure that the welding area is clean, free of oil and impurities, and thoroughly clean it. Select appropriate welding equipment, including TIG welding machines, argon cylinders, TIG welding guns, electrodes, etc.
2. Set up welding equipment: Connect the TIG welding machine to the power source and ensure that the power is turned off. Connect the argon gas cylinder to the welding machine and open the valve of the argon gas cylinder. Set appropriate current, electrode polarity, and argon gas flow according to welding requirements.
3. Preparation of electrodes: Select an appropriate type of tungsten electrode (usually tungsten electrode containing 2% molybdenum can provide better arc stability). Prepare the tungsten electrode by grinding or sharpening to make its end face flat, generally recommended to be tapered.
4. Determine welding position and posture: Determine the welding position and angle, use welding fixtures or magnetic brackets to fix the workpiece as needed, and choose the appropriate welding posture, usually holding or supporting the welding gun.
5. Start welding: Turn on the welding machine power and adjust the current to the appropriate level. Press and hold the trigger of the welding gun to activate the argon gas flow and establish an argon protective atmosphere. Maintain the welding gun at the correct distance and angle to maintain appropriate contact between the tungsten electrode and the weld seam. By controlling the movement speed of the welding gun and workpiece, a stable arc is formed and welding is carried out. Maintain the stability of the welding gun, continue welding along the weld seam, maintain appropriate welding speed and path, release the trigger of the welding gun when it is necessary to stop welding or change the position of the welding gun, and wait for the arc to extinguish before turning off the argon gas flow.
6. Welding completion: After completing the welding, wait for the weld to cool down and check the welding quality. Clean the residue and oxide layer in the welding area to ensure that the welding area is clean.
When conducting argon arc welding, it is necessary to pay attention to appropriate ventilation: argon is a colorless and odorless gas, but it may cause suffocation at high concentrations. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the welding area to avoid the accumulation of argon gas, and provide good air circulation by installing ventilation equipment or conducting welding outdoors.
